A World of Patent Information for Entrepreneurs

Searching and Filing Trademarks with the USPTO

A very important step in building your brand is applying for trademark with the US Patent and Trademark Office.  This video discusses two of the USPTO’s online services for trademarks: the Trademark Electronic Search System (TESS) and the Trademark Electronic Application System (TEAS).

This video, I will admit, is very incomplete in terms of what all you need to know and what you need to do file a trademark application and get a loud.  However, I still wanted to put something together about the process. The idea is that by demonstrating these technical tools, you’ll get a better understanding of the underlying rules and regulations that govern how trademarks work.

I’ve also put together a playlist of the USPTO’s videos on trademarks.  (They had the videos, but they hadn’t bothered putting them into an ordered list. So I feel like I’ve done them a favor.) These videos are a little bit cheesy but they are very informative. If you’re considering filing a trademark application, you should watch all of the videos and make sure you understand all of the key concepts.

As always, consider hiring a professional to do your trademark work for you.  For more information about locating a USPTO registered practitioner, check out my post here.
